H3C PLUS Complete NEWCASTLE AIRPORT TERMINAL Securtity Redevelopment
H3C Plus Upgrades Newcastle Airport – H3C Plus has completed a comprehensive electronic security upgrade at Newcastle Airport
The scope of works involved integrating Gallagher access control, Avigilon CCTV and CIC Torus key management with existing and new security infrastructure.
According to H3C Plus’ Nick Churchill, the works included transitioning the site from older systems to new platforms while keeping the airport’s operational areas live. The works were delivered under engagement with NAPL and the builder, Construction Control, with security consultancy provided by SCG.
H3C Plus is the incumbent integrator at the site and managed design and delivery of the upgrade, including system replacement and expansion across CCTV, access control and the Torus key management platform.
Existing infrastructure at the site included 173 cameras and 70 access points. The upgrade added 200 new Avigilon CCTV cameras, 130 access-controlled doors and integrated Class 5 alarm points. Intercom integration was also delivered via the Avigilon ACC management suite.
In terms of system integration, there are new high-level interface (HLI) links from ACC to Gallagher, with alarms interfaced, but the systems otherwise operate separately.
“There was existing CIC CQRIT key management integration with Gallagher, however, these CIC units were upgraded/replaced through the project with the CIC Torus platform as part of the works,” Churchill said.

“This meant the Gallagher HLI was also changed through the Gallagher Cardholder REST API. The Gallagher and Avigilon ACC are interfaced through the Avigilon Unity Gallagher integration license.”
All new cameras are Avigilon, and the VMS platform is Avigilon Control Center. Access control is handled by Gallagher C7000 controllers via the Gallagher Command Centre management software, with Gallagher readers at access points.
“Operationally, we manage the CCTV and access control systems separately but use the Gallagher HLI for alarm interface, while the onsite airport security team is responsible for responding to alarm events,” Churchill said.
The project spanned 18 months, the upgrade required extensive planning and a staged cutover from live legacy infrastructure to the new systems – always a tricky process on a busy high security site.
“Management of the migration from existing to new, and the cutover of the existing live areas to the new space were the biggest challenges,” Churchill said.
The H3C Plus team working on the project comprised 13 staff, including a project director, project manager, engineer, 2 commissioning leads, 5 cabling technicians, and 5 installation technicians and Churchill said vendor engagement was key to success for the H3C Plus team.
“Our team did well to navigate the challenges of the project and appreciated the support from Construction Control’s amazing team,” Churchill said.
“Avigilon, Gallagher and CIC provide great project level support to H3C Plus – we really enjoy this enterprise systems interaction and interface.”
